Wepad: now soaks up more of your time than the ipad

Well CES2010 is a distant memory but how I do miss you. CES2010 introduced us to such great things as crappy 3D TV concepts and a slew of other fledgling technologies concepts rushed out of the dark moldy basement of RnD. One thing that was at CES but didn’t seem to get much hype, was the slew of tablet PCs now renamed to PADS due to apples forth coming iPad (still trying to think of what was going on in marketing when they conceived that name). One I really liked was the crunchpad, at one time the CrunchPad seemed to be a real possiblity, it was big but not to big, it was cool, cheap, you could hack it to do WHATEVER you wanted, it ran windows or CHROME or whatever (I saw through linux on the biatch), it had everthing we wanted in a tablet…err PAD, then it died. But why, was the market not ready, was it to advance and beyond its time, did the Gods conspire to its downfall…what could have failed this awesome toy.

“And then the entire project self destructed over nothing more than greed, jealousy and miscommunication.”

iPad, uPad, we all need a wePad!

Well lets just settle and go with the only option available…the ipad. What’s that there are others, no, when did this happen…you mean to tell me there are more tablets, I mean PADs, that have been around for YEARS, why come I’m just hear about this now? Its true, there are lots of tablets out there and they’ve been around for years, its just that the design never was a key point for these manufactures…what idiots, WHEN WILL THEY learn its about the look then performance then price…duh. Anyway most early tablets run windows and the design was a unappealing escpciellly compared to apples knack for cool design and the ipad design is still inline with their theme and definatly had no iconic stock like apple is always able to gather.

But wait is apples iPad(really guys no better name)…the only option when it comes to a tablet..PAD…with sleek design and great software? No its not, there are lots of players out there like the wepad(…err) I think the wepad will definately be a strong contender to the iPad. The wePad runs Google Android and its just about 2 inches bigger than the ipad. For those out there like myself who weren’t considerign getting a ipad because of it complete locked down and just because we are haters of apple and all it stands for, then wePad maybe for us.

As far as specs and looks goes there are multiple Android tablets that have equal or far better specs then the iPad and this is one of the best Android tablets possibley coming to the reall market. The WePad has a screen of 11.6 inches (1366 x 768), an Intel Atom N450 at 1.66 GHz, GMA 3150, memory of 16 GB NAND Flash (or 32 GB internal + 32 GB optional SD card), a 1.3mp webcam, multi-tasking support, bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, optional GPS, motion sensor, two USB ports, flash card reader, a UMTS modem and six hours of battery life, though that claim doesn’t come with a pre-qualification of under what sort of workloads you could expect that sort of performance. Thats what I’m talking about, everything I need NOW unlike the iPad that you have to wait for them to figure out that impsooble technology of incorporating a simple camera in there first gen devices, not you will have to wait for subsequent generations for that and pay for it. Running android means that it supports FLASH and Adobe AIR and you’ll have access to the Andorid store in additon to its own app store, and being open source means that there is sure to be lots of apps for everyone.

On paper, this certainly looks like a legitimate iPad contender, if not a killer should people look beyond their blinding stare of apple ipad. This is a great device that will be great around the office or home as a supplimentary device to your main computer. I’m just curious to see the price points, the crunchpad was rumored to be priced around the $200USD mark so I hope that that peeps over at NEOFINE price this unit agresively to compete against the ipad.

I could not find anything about release date or even a website so for now this device exist only the wet dreams of the geek nation and is relegated to the vaporware category

Testing wordpress blackberry app

Testing wordpress blackberry app ver. 0.9.0.149. As you all know I’m a run leader at the Toronto runners lounge, well tonight Priscilla Lopes-Schliep will be at the lounge so I wanted to document and so decided to try the WP app.

This is my second attempt on posting from my Blackberry Bold, I lost a very amazing post when I attempted to add a second pic from my SD card. Ok so the test was a three parter:
(1) overall feel and intuitiveness of the app
(2) ease of use of features
(3) attaching images
(4) attaching video

Before I get into, I would recommend you save often and definitely before adding additional images. I have it set to save a draft to the server but you can choose to have it save locally too. I just checked the server after hitting save 3 times nothing there. I just changed it to ‘local draft’, and copy the article in case something happens. Today more and more apps are being released as BETA, vendors are cutting test and using use as the unknowing BETA tester, I blame google and they can blame Microsoft.

(1) overall feel and intuitiveness of the app
(2) ease of use of features (1and 2 are basically should have been one in the same)

As far as the look and use of this app I really like everything I see and have used. Its clean easy grasp on this my first use. Things are well laid out and easy to find. The only thing I don’t like is that when I searched for a pic on device it gave me a list of the images not a pictorial preview of images so you have to know the exact name of the desired file.

(3) attaching images
Like I said this is were I lost the first article that was amazing…yes amazing. Well I’ll try to take a picture and see what happens. I’ve first, not sure if that’s working but I hope so. I took a new pic(shadow of me hold a peace sign). When I took the pic I notice both the pic shot earlier of my tired football cleats and the pic of the kodak kiosk from my SD card that made me lose the first article that was amazing, are still there…could that be a bug, I’ll check the forums.

(4) attaching video
As I noted in my first article there are no provisions for attaching video so I’m going to look for a youtube app if any and will shoot the vid, upload then link it through my youtube account.

Conclusion
All finished and no crash…yet. The fact that you are reading this is evidence posting was successful. I like this app so far and since I find myself thinking of the most craziest things at the most inopportune times having a way to blog them on the go is a great thing for me. I hope they continue to improve this app and add more features in the future. And for myself I hop this helps me to blog more.

****UPDATE****
it actually didn’t work after I reviewed it I had to go in and repost using the web interface and recode the images to work properly.

NOTE
- limit on how many tags can be used
- lose all when adding image from SD card
- text list of images, a image preview would be better.
- when I tried submiting I received an error “Local Draft cannot be sended”
- add video or audio option
- my theme could be retrieved

Choosing the Right IT Service Provider

When you choose the IT service provider, you have to follow a few simple rules. The first one is that you have to analyze the need of your organization. If you are running a small company, you might not need help from a technical support person. But if the number of employees exceeds 40, then it is time to look for a good company for total computer support. A reliable network is must and you will also need good server architecture in order to store your files and protect your data from violation.

When you select a company for IT service, you should ask one basic question. How fast can they come for troubleshooting? The contract that you will be signing with the company will decide on the details. The time period specified should not be more than 4 hours. If they are taking more than 24 hours, it is better to rethink about your decision. The problem will not be specified in the allotted time, but the technician should at least start the process of troubleshooting within that specific time.

The reliability of the company can be ensured only by the clients or those people who have benefited from their services. You can always ask for references. It is always better to ensure beforehand that the company will respond on time in hours of distress. Be it the Christmas eve or in the middle of the night, the company should be at your service always. When you lose precious data because of hardware failure, you will not like the feeling. You can always talk with the representative of the company in details before you proceed to make the deal for IT service.

When you look at the contract papers, you should look for specifications, like if the service is prepaid or not. It is better if one person comes for computer support. He will know the details, will have the record of previous trouble tickets and as a result, it will be easier for him to locate the problem in order to fix it. If you are working with someone new, there will be a lot of time lost over explanation. The remote support control desk is a unique feature. If you are located in California and facing a problem, there will be an engineer who will log in and will save you from distress. While choosing the service providers, you can ask, if they have the provision of this particular service.

There is one company which will impress you with their customized computer support. ithelpcrew.com has the expertise and the knowledge. And as for the customers, there have been great responses. The satisfaction rating is indeed high. Along with the on-site service which is available in the GTA, the company also offers remote control service.

Make Web Not War

Wow, yes wow, I was very surprised and very happy I decided to attend Microsofts ‘makewebnotwar’. Honestly I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it and decided I would just go see what it was all about, I got there around 9:20, you know me always running a little behind but always there. I listened to the speakers and learned a lot about what is going on with tech and start-ups in the Tdot and how Microsoft is the power behind a lot of what we do online, I learned how Microsoft is promising and delivering more and more open source products that are good. I mean you have to take it with a grain of salt but it all looks promising, I guess its them venturing away from the bad image of the nineties and finally seeing that open source is truly a good thing for them and everyone. I’m thinking it’s the ole “if you can’t beat em. Join em” thing. Every speaker came with something new and exciting they practically had me on the edge of the seat and in some cases wanting more except for the “building interoperable web apps with PHP” when that guy got on I had received my network key and was deep in the sites that the earlier speakers spoke about, his presentation was a snooze for me, others seem interested.
What I learned, well not much really I would say my eyes were opened to some new things and I was intrigued but the only thing I could say I learned would be about Microsofts’ new BING experience that they have brought in to take over their Live Search. During a break I went to the lounge and talked to the BING rep and she really schooled me on Bing, plus she was hilarious. I totally will be looking at Bing differently now. Its far more in-depth than I first believe and I look forward to testing it out thoroughly and of course pitting it up against Google.
The parting gift:
There were snacks and lunch was served, nothing there for us, the health conscience, other than tea and canned juice, I think fruits would have been a nice thing to have, or maybe they had some and I didn’t see it or get to it in time.
Great presentation, we all received a little metal lunch box that included:
A Web Warrior Kit – a CD fill with MS web apps, tools and resources (included…Windows 7RC)
Windows 7 tips and tricks guide
Small business information flyer with a $5 starbucks card attached
MS partner program signup and get a free copy of MS Expressions web 2
Gears Of War, Halo and Skate stickers
1 DVD copy of Windows 7RC (not sure if I will try running this on my laptop)
1 bag of Lays Chips
1 box of branded smarties
1 bag of skittles(almost didn’t think they still made this candy)
1 instant stain remover pen(dunno)
1 can of Red Rave energy drink
1 aluminum water bottle Bing branded

Doh! undo! undo! undo…ahwhw.

Have you ever sent that email you really didn’t want to send but the drunk you thought it was a brilliant idea.  I know at least one person who has sent out an email ranting on and on about their utter dislike for the boss because the little angry voice told them it was a good idea and it was about time someone stood up to that jerk. Don’t you wish you could just get  that micro-second back, a sort of panic-this-is-a-colossal-mistake button, well if you’re a Google follower and thus a user of there fabulous online email app, Gmail, you’re in luck. Google just release a new feature that allows you to stop an already sent email. Its labeled as the “undo” button but I will call it “email regret” button and so it shall be called from this day forth…if I remember. Anyway what it comes down to is that if you send an email via Gmail and for any reason within a few seconds(5 seconds) of sending said email you want to cancel it, all you have to do is click the “email regret” aka “undo” button and pow through the magic that is server and the interweb stuff its recalled.  The low down on the what’s happening and how Googles God power is working to save your drunk angry ass is as follows, when you click send Google holds the message for a 5 second delay from the time you hit send and the time that Gmail actually sends the message.

You have to go in Gmail Labs in Settings to activate this new feature. (Scroll down in settings, it is not at the top for some reason).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Ingenuine Isn’t a Word?

Ingenuine Isn’t a Word?

I’ve been using ‘ingenuine’ for years. I never thought to look it up because I was  certain it was a proper word but apparently it isn’t. I was writing something and my spell checker underlines it as incorrect, I rolled my eyes and started to cures the American dictionary that the check uses I clicked it to see what the suggested spelling was and was surprised to see so suggested spelling, hmmm off to Google to check.  Went to and checked Dictionary.com. Nope. Went to and checked Merriam-Webster. No go. I checked answer.com. zilch. Wow, ‘ingenuine’ sounds like a word but after check all these reliable sources on the inter-web-tubes-net, I must concede, it is not a word.

Ok, so ‘ingenuine’ is not a word…W.E., I must be just be spelling and saying it incorrectly, clearly there is a word that is close. What is the appropriate antonym to ‘genuine’? Ungenuine? Agenuine? Nongenuine, egenuine? No such version of ‘genuine’ exists. This antonym finder suggests ‘insincere’.

Wow….WOW, I really do hate when sense comes around the corner and smack the shit out of you.

I find some comfort or is it sadness that Google has 10,700 mentions of the word that not a word.
